SIM Swap Fraud

SIM Swap is a fraud technique where attackers convince a carrier to port a victim's phone number to a new SIM card. This allows fraudsters to receive SMS authentication codes and take over accounts. LRN Activation Date helps detect SIM swap by showing recent porting activity.

How SIM Swap Works

  1. Attacker gathers victim's personal information
  2. Contacts carrier pretending to be victim
  3. Requests number port to new SIM
  4. Receives victim's calls and texts
  5. Uses SMS 2FA codes to access accounts

Detection with LRN Activation Date

When a SIM swap occurs, the LRN Activation Date updates. If a number was ported recently and is now being used for sensitive actions, it may indicate fraud.
