Do Not Call Registry

DNC (Do Not Call) refers to the National Do Not Call Registry maintained by the FTC, as well as company-specific and state DNC lists. Businesses must scrub their call lists against DNC registries before making telemarketing calls.

DNC List Types

  • National DNC — FTC-maintained registry
  • State DNC — Some states maintain separate lists
  • Company DNC — Your internal opt-out list

Requirements

Telemarketers must access the National DNC Registry and scrub their lists at least every 31 days. Calling someone on the list can result in penalties up to $50,000 per call.
