Optional Do-Not-Originate (DNO) checks

DNO is a separately priced, account-enabled pilot signal for checking a presented calling number. It is not a complete call-blocking decision.

What does a DNO result mean?

Listed means the checked source reported that the calling number should not originate calls. Not listed means only that this source had no listing when checked. Unavailable is not a clean result.

How is DNO requested?

The planned optional flag is include_dno: true on the existing single-number LRN, bulk LRN and background Jobs APIs. It must not be combined with lrn_only: true. DNO remains unavailable for live requests until the account and global pilot are activated.

What happens without access?

A request with include_dno: true returns HTTP 403 and DNO_NOT_ENABLED before a provider call or wallet debit. If the provider pilot is closed, it returns HTTP 503 and DNO_UNAVAILABLE. Do not retry rapidly or interpret either response as a DNO result.

What will it cost?

The proposed on-demand DNO charge is $0.03 per completed check, whether listed or not, in addition to other requested products. No DNO charge applies when the DNO source cannot answer. Carrier-scale screening requires a separate scope and price.

Is DNO the same as Do Not Call or proof of caller identity?

No. DNO concerns numbers that should not originate calls. It is not Do Not Call screening, a verification of the caller, or a substitute for a voice provider’s DNO policy.

Pilot request shape

This flag is visible for integration planning. Live DNO checks remain closed until the pilot is activated for an account. Do not treat an access error as a lookup result.

Access errors

HTTP 403: {"code":"DNO_NOT_ENABLED"} when the account or key lacks DNO access. HTTP 503: {"code":"DNO_UNAVAILABLE"} when the pilot is globally paused. Both occur before billing.
