LRN Data Provided
- LRN — The 10-digit Local Routing Number assigned to this phone number in NPAC. Used by carriers for call routing. For programmatic LRN lookups at scale, see the VRI LRN API.
- Carrier — Current serving carrier identified by the LRN (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, etc.). For SMS routing and messaging provider identification, see the Messaging Provider API.
- Line Type — Wireless, landline, or VoIP
- LRN Activation Date — When the number was last ported. Exclusive to VRI.
- OCN — Operating Company Number (unique carrier ID)
- Location — Rate center city and state

Need API Access?
This tool runs one lookup at a time. The VRI API supports bulk and programmatic lookups via REST and GraphQL — query millions of numbers automatically, integrate results directly into your platform, and pay only for what you use. Starting at $0.0005 per lookup with no minimum commit.
- NPAC-sourced LRN data accurate for ported numbers — not area-code guessing
- LRN, carrier, line type, OCN, and activation date in one $0.0005 query
- CNAM (caller ID) available as an add-on — see the CNAM API
- Bulk CSV upload available — enrich full contact lists before outreach
What Is an LRN?
A Local Routing Number (LRN) is a 10-digit number assigned to a phone number in the NPAC (Number Portability Administration Center) database. When a number is ported to a new carrier, its LRN is updated to reflect the new serving carrier. Carriers use LRNs to route calls correctly regardless of the number's original area code or provider.
Why LRN Lookup Matters
Number Portability
Over 30% of US phone numbers have been ported at least once. Area codes and NPA-NXX prefixes no longer reliably identify carriers. LRN lookup queries NPAC directly, returning the current routing carrier — not the original one.
- Accurate carrier identification after porting
- Avoid misrouted calls due to stale carrier assumptions
- Required for accurate inter-carrier billing
Call Routing
Carriers and VoIP providers use LRN data to determine the least-cost routing path for every call. Accurate LRN data reduces transit costs and improves call quality.
Fraud Detection
The LRN Activation Date (exclusive to VRI) tells you when a number was last ported. A recently ported number can signal SIM swap fraud, reassigned numbers, or synthetic identity risk.
Exclusive: LRN Activation Date
VeriRoute Intel is the only provider that returns LRN Activation Date — the exact date a number's LRN was last updated in NPAC. This timestamp is critical for:
- Detecting SIM swap fraud (sudden recent port)
- Identifying recently recycled numbers
- Assessing trust based on carrier tenure
Included free with every LRN lookup at $0.0005 per query.
LRN Lookup — FAQ
What is an LRN and why does it matter?
An LRN (Local Routing Number) is a 10-digit identifier assigned to a phone number in the NPAC database that maps to its current serving carrier. When a number is ported, its LRN changes. Carriers use LRNs to route calls correctly — area codes alone are unreliable because over 30% of US numbers have been ported at least once.
How accurate is VRI's LRN data?
VRI sources LRN data directly from NPAC, the authoritative US number portability database maintained by iconectiv. This is the same data carriers use for call routing. LRN data is updated in real time as numbers are ported, so VRI always returns the current routing carrier — not a cached or inferred value.
What is LRN Activation Date and where does it come from?
LRN Activation Date is the date the number's LRN was last updated in NPAC — effectively the date the number was last ported. VeriRoute Intel is the only provider that surfaces this timestamp. It is used for fraud detection (SIM swap risk), reassigned number identification, and carrier tenure assessment.
